Swinbrook CC

LEVER TRIGGER FINGER OVERSHADOWS TOUR VICTORY
It was meant to be a peaceful, friendly and good-willed game of cricket. With North Harrow strolling to a comfortable win, (no wickets down and only 40 runs required from 25 overs) Umpire Lever caused uproar by dismissing two NHCC players LBW in three balls. The howls, cackling and the dropped jaws of the NHCC players in the pavilion aptly described the scene.
Swinbrook won the toss and decided bat. They probably thought North Harrow were a good side as they all had matching caps, and the wacky pink hat would punish any errors in the field. Thoughts of, “oh this could be a long afternoon”, entered the minds of NHCC as Jackson was emphatically driven over his own head by a classy looking opener in the very first over. The same opener looked solid in defence and he purposefully guided an off-stump length delivery straight into the ground, and into Dan’s hands. The batsman then walked.
This led to a collapse. The new lean, mean machine Jackson bowled superbly to demolish the Swinbrook top order. Even though Jackson was taken off, the wickets continued to fall. Sukh, Teebs and Dave all chipped in with wickets. Dan having taken a false catch then decided he could do things properly by bowling like a demon to take three key wickets.
The only resistance offered was by their number 6. It needed something a bit special to get him out, so captain marvel brought on the ‘Golden Arm’ Lever to dismiss him with his first and only ball of his spell with a flighted loopy ball which bamboozled the bat and led to displaced bails.
The run chase was on. With a modest total, the North Harrow middle and lower order tucked into their premature beers, as the openers chipped (hacked and slashed) away at the total. All seemed pleasant on this fine summers day until a loud appeal from Swinbrook. Murray was LBW according to Umpire Lever. Murray instantly reviewed. Hawkeye showed that despite Murray being some distance down the pitch, middle stump was hit half way up.
The exact same delivery 2 balls later led to another LBW decision for Ahsun. Ahsun also reviewed the call. Hawkeye showed the ball hitting middle stump half way up, and hot spot did not show anything on the bat. It was selfish of these players to use up NHCC’s allocation of reviews.
During all this mayhem, Amar maintained his focus to compile 46 cultured runs. Teebs was in, hit a 6 and was out quicker than the time it took him to make the most racist remark of the whole weekend. Matt perished for a 3. But Ben and Mark guided North Harrow home to a resounding tour victory.
Player Ratings
Murray 6 – Looked scratchy, but contributed well to NHCC batting total
Ryatt 8 – Good in the field, 46 vital runs in low scoring game
Khan 3 – expensive in his 3 overs, got a duck
Clothier 4 – NHCC needed him to stick around as wickets tumble
Lever 6 – not out with bat, one ball one wicket of the best player. Under utilised
Bryce 6 – one over one wicket, looked momentarily good in bat
Lloyd 6 – kept wicket reasonably, not out batsman
Jackson 7 – took 3 vital early wickets. Swinbrook never recovered
Barn 5 – Bowled reasonably, will be disappointed with just one wicket
Ahmad 5 – Bowled reasonably, will be disappointed with just one wicket
Ulzhoefer 7 – took 3 important wickets to ensure no Swinbrook fightback

Teas – Excellent array of cakes, sandwiches and nibbles
Ground – Lovely. Stone wall boundaries, tumbling hills landscape, clean pavilion, river next to pitch.
Opposition – Nice enough guys. Bit too nice when they walk on bunked balls.
